Baotou promotes ecological protection

In recent years, Baotou has been stepping up efforts to protect the ecology and environment.

The city's Nanhai Wetland has become a bird paradise, with the number of bird species increasing from over 70 to 232, including 49 national key protected species, attracting numerous tourists and photographers daily.

Baotou's efforts in pollution control have led to strong results, with the city's PM2.5 concentration dropping from 44 micrograms per cubic meter in 2015 to 28 mcg per cu m in 2023.

All industrial kilns now use clean energy, and all coal-fired power units above 300,000 kilowatts have achieved ultra-low emissions. Baogang Group has invested nearly 10 billion yuan ($1.38 billion) to complete ultra-low emission upgrades.

Moreover, Baotou is vigorously developing emerging industries. The production capacities of polysilicon and monocrystalline silicon in the city rank first in China, earning it the title "World Green Silicon City" from the Global Green Energy Industry Council. The city has promoted a green and low-carbon transition in its development.
