Baotou Aluminum's new energy project progresses steadily
On Aug 8, the first wind turbine of Baotou Aluminum's 1,200-megawatt renewable energy project was successfully installed. This project is a significant step for Baotou Aluminum in achieving its goals of "peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality" and accelerating its transition toward sustainable development.

The project has a total capacity of 1,200 MW, which includes 1,000 MW of wind power, 200 MW of photovoltaic power, two 220-kilovolt booster stations, transmission lines and a 900,000-kilowatt line, as well as supporting electrochemical energy storage facilities.
The project will provide approximately 3.8 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually to Baotou Aluminum, significantly enhancing the company's clean energy supply capabilities.
On Nov 7, 2023, the project, along with Baotou Aluminum's green power supply project, was included on the list of Inner Mongolia autonomous region's market-based renewable energy projects.
Upon completion of the two aforementioned projects, Baotou Aluminum will integrate 2,100 MW of renewable energy, leveraging the peak-shaving capabilities of the Baotou Aluminum Thermal Power Plant and the load absorption capacity of its electrolytic aluminum processes.
This will also enable the deep integration of renewable energy, with annual green electricity usage exceeding 7 billion kWh, accounting for more than 40 percent of Baotou Aluminum's total electricity consumption. This will result in an annual reduction of 5.96 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
