The crime and suspense drama Unfathomable, starring actors Liu Ye and Nie Yuan, and actress Wang Jiajia, has recently begun filming.

The production team will relocate to the Daqingshan Military and Industrial Film Base in Shiguai district of Baotou city – situated in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – for on-site shooting in mid-September.

Shiguai district is home to a rich array of evocative old industrial and residential buildings, making it the heart of the film center.

The base leverages Baotou's unique military, mining and industrial heritage – drawing on the historical and cultural resources of the old Shiguai district.

It focuses on three main themes – century-old railways, nostalgic towns and red revolutionary villages – to establish itself as a significant film hub for military, industrial and period dramas.

Some well-known films and television series – including The North of The Earth as well as The Spring Comes – have been shot on location at this base.

After extensive research, the Unfathomable crew found that some scenes from the plot aligned perfectly with what was at the base, leading them to choose this location for filming.

The crew has already completed nearly 20,000 square meters of set design – so, be sure to catch a sneak peek.

In the drama Unfathomable, actor Liu plays the role of police officer Zhu Helai, who unexpectedly uncovers a new lead in an old robbery case. The trail points directly to Meng Guangcai, portrayed by actor Nie, a former migrant worker who has risen to become a successful entrepreneur.

As Zhu Helai intensifies his investigation, Meng Guangcai, along with his former accomplices, meticulously crafts a web of lies, aiming to obscure the truth in a high-stakes battle with the police.

The story gradually unveils the complex, 28-year-long entanglement of grievances, betrayals and unresolved emotions between Zhu and Meng. The intertwined fates and turbulent life journeys of the two men form the heart of the plot.
