Baotou half marathon runners race along Yellow River

The second leg of the 2024 Baotou Half Marathon took place on Aug 31 at the Baotou Yellow River National Cultural Park in Baotou city.

Nearly 8,000 runners from China, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Japan participated in the event.

The course ran along the Yellow River, offering picturesque views and allowing runners to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the river and the natural landscapes.

After an intense competition, Kenyan runner Njoroge Fredrick Chege won the men's title in 1 hr 8 min 28 sec. Chinese runner Liu Aiyan secured second place with 1: 8: 35, while Kenyan runner Abraham Kipruto came in third with a time of 1: 8: 45.

In the women's half marathon, Chinese runners Tonglegga, Kang Meiru, and Gao Lixia swept the top three spots, finishing in 1: 19: 44, 1: 20: 20, and 1: 22: 2, respectively.

After the race, women's champion Tonglegga said, "The scenery along the racecourse was truly beautiful. It gave me a great impression of Baotou as a city."
