New mooncake flavors welcomed in Baotou
With the Mid-Autumn Festival taking place on Sept 17, the mooncake market is once again in the spotlight. Mooncakes, a symbol of family reunion which blends tradition and innovation, are the most in-demand holiday item.
While traditional flavors remain popular, especially among older generations, the preferences of younger consumers (born in the 1990s and 2000s) have spurred brands to experiment with new flavors and healthier options.

This year, mooncakes have been reimagined with lighter packaging and smaller portion sizes, emphasizing health-conscious ingredients and creativity. In Baotou, local bakeries and small-scale mooncake makers have embraced traditional recipes, such as red sugar-filled mooncakes, while incorporating modern elements to appeal to a broader audience. Meanwhile, iconic brands like Fengtai have introduced innovative varieties like beef jerky mooncakes, blending regional specialties with tradition.
