China's 1st eco-value 'Grass Carbon Ticket' launched in Baotou
On Dec 6, Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner in Baotou hosted the launch and signing ceremony of the carbon ticket derived from grassland resources. This event marked the issuance of China's first-ever eco-value-backed "Grass Carbon Ticket".

The "Grass Carbon Ticket" represents the economic and ecological value of grassland resources. Through voluntary investments and equal collaboration, State-owned enterprises partner with local village collectives and herders to protect and restore grassland ecosystems. These economic value certificates are issued using profits from sustainable grassland management, ensuring benefits flow to local communities and social capital stakeholders.
In January 2024, Baotou launched the country's first pilot program for the "Grass Carbon Ticket" system. Over the past year, it has developed implementation plans, identified pilot regions, and established mechanisms for issuing, transferring, and enhancing the ticket's value. Agreements with local entities clarified profit-sharing and entry mechanisms, laying the foundation for this innovative initiative.
The "Grass Carbon Ticket" system aims to enhance resource liquidity, facilitate sustainable grassland development, and enrich ecological product value channels. Beyond economic benefits, it opens pathways for carbon sink and desertification mitigation initiatives, contributing to greener and more sustainable grassland use.
