Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos-Ulanqab integration moves ahead

Updated: 2024-12-11

The advancement of integration between Hohhot, Baotou, Ordos, and Ulanqab is increasingly reshaping how people live, work, and travel across Inner Mongolia's core economic belt.

Every day, dozens of high-speed trains now shuttle between Baotou and Hohhot, shortening the commute to just one hour. This same convenience now connects all four cities through both rail and an ever-expanding web of highways. By 2023, combined highway mileage across the region had reached 61,000 kilometers, forming a powerful transportation network linking urban centers with even the smallest towns.

Through the city's geographic advantages, the Baotou bureau of transport is driving multimodal connectivity across Hohhot, Baotou, Ordos, and Ulanqab, blending road, rail, and air into a unified transportation system.

Recent milestones include completing the northern bypass of National Highway 110, a key east-west corridor connecting Baotou to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Construction on the Bayan Obo-Guyang section of National Highway 210 is also progressing swiftly.

Rail infrastructure is gaining momentum, with the Baotou-Yinchuan High-speed Railway currently under full-scale construction, aiming to be operational by 2025. Once complete, it will enhance connections between Inner Mongolia and China's broader western regions.

Baotou continues to strengthen its air travel network, expanding passenger flow and improving service quality. These efforts aim to create a high-efficiency aerial corridor, strengthening links with neighboring regions and injecting fresh energy into the local economy.
