Updated: 2024-12-18

On Dec 17, Inner Mongolia Energy Group held its 2024 winter major energy projects launch ceremony in the Shiguai district of Baotou, marking a significant step in the region's green energy transformation.

Yan Hongguang, chairman of the Inner Mongolia Energy Group, emphasized the Group's commitment to initiating construction, early operations, and achieving results for new projects.

This phase of construction includes 12 key energy projects in nine cities and banners in the region, comprising two coal-fired power plants and 10 new energy projects. With an estimated total investment of about 30 billion yuan ($4.18 billion) and a total installed capacity of 10.34 million kilowatts, these projects are projected to produce nearly 30 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.

Once the project is in operation, it is set to reduce over 5 million metric tons of standard coal consumption and decrease carbon dioxide emissions by more than 16 million tons per year. Two of these projects are situated in Baotou, highlighting the city's proactive role in promoting energy innovation and structural change.
