Snake Year decorations light up Baotou markets
A journalist recently visited various markets and wholesale centers in Baotou, where vibrant Year of the Snake decorations have become a highlight, creating a strong festive atmosphere.
The decorations include traditional items such as Spring Festival couplets, "Fu" characters (representing happiness and good luck), and paper cuttings, alongside an array of snake-themed toys and ornaments. Residents could be seen weaving through the stalls, picking out their favorite items.
Mr Ding, the owner of a shop in the 106 Small Commodities Wholesale Market, shared that this year's sales are on par with last year, but the customer demographic has shifted, with older shoppers taking the lead. "The busiest time is from 2 to 5 pm every day," he said.
"This year's decorations are exceptionally diverse. I have picked up some snake-shaped pendants and creative lanterns to bring a festive flair to my home," said Deng Min, a local shopper.
According to Wang Le, the owner of a lantern shop in the market, rising living standards in recent years have increased people's expectations for festive purchases. Lanterns, in particular, have become a popular way for households to decorate their homes.

To cater to a variety of customer preferences, Wang's store offers a wide range of lanterns in different styles and at different price points. These include tree-wrapping lights up to 100 meters long, branch-hanging decorative lights, vertical lanterns for balconies and entryways, and curtain lights for the use as backdrops or window decorations.
