Baotou's trade-in program boosts sales and green transition
A recent survey by the Baotou bureau of statistics shows that over 50 percent of major home appliance retailers have participated in the government's trade-in program, with nearly 90 percent reporting increased sales. More than half of the enterprises saw sales grow by 15 percent to 30 percent, while over 80 percent experienced higher customer footfall and improved transaction rates.
The program also encouraged greener practices – 66.7 percent of participants stated that it accelerated their shift toward sustainability. However, challenges remain, including high costs for evaluating and transporting old appliances, as well as insufficient recycling systems.
Businesses suggest expanding product coverage, increasing subsidies, and improving policy promotion and oversight to enhance the program's impact and participation.
