Baotou's appliance trade-in program injects new vitality into enterprises
A recent survey conducted by the Baotou municipal bureau of statistics reveals strong positive impacts from the city's appliance trade-in program. Over 50 percent of enterprises above the designated size participated, with nearly 90 percent reporting increased sales. More than half saw sales growth between 15 percent and 30 percent, while over 80 percent benefited from higher foot traffic.
The program, which is largely promoted through offline stores with some online integration via platforms such as JD.com, has also accelerated green transformation, with 66.7 percent of enterprises confirming that it has encouraged sustainable upgrades. However, challenges such as high costs for old appliance assessment, transportation, and underdeveloped recycling systems remain.
In response, businesses have called for expanded subsidy categories, stronger policy promotion, reduced entry barriers, and better recycling infrastructure to enhance enterprises' participation.
