Baotou Rare Earth High-tech Zone sees rising momentum
The Baotou Rare Earth High-tech Industrial Development Zone is accelerating the transformation of traditional industries and strengthening strategic emerging sectors. Baotou Rare Earth Huaxing Technology Co, based in the zone, has launched the second phase of its project to produce 8,000 metric tons of rare earth metals annually, while Baotou JX Electronics Co is developing the world's first automated multi-track smart production line for Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) anti-shake motors, which is expected to be operational by June.
The zone is also expanding in areas such as permanent magnet motors, shipborne generators, and silicon photovoltaic technology. Companies, including North Rare Earth Magnetic Materials Co and Baotou Inst Magnetic New Materials Co, are increasing local investment and extending industrial chains. Efforts are also underway to foster specialized small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that drive innovation in high-temperature alloys and advanced materials.
With strong policy support and growing clusters in rare earths, new energy, and future industries such as AI and synthetic biology, the zone is steadily building a competitive and innovative industrial ecosystem.
