Baotou rare earth zone expands innovation leadership
Baotou Rare Earth High-tech Industrial Development Zone has reinforced its position as Inner Mongolia's innovation hub after four local enterprises were named 2024 Outstanding Sci-tech Innovators by the regional government. This brings the zone's total awardees to 10, representing nearly 60 percent of Baotou's honorees.
The recognized companies, including JL MAG Rare-Earth Co and Baotou Zhenxiong Copper Co, have achieved breakthroughs in critical technologies such as rare-earth modified oxygen-free copper wires and high-performance magnetic materials. These innovations demonstrate the zone's tiered enterprise development system that nurtures startups into industry leaders.
The zone has cultivated a robust innovation ecosystem, completing 69 joint R&D projects, transferring 31 technologies, and attracting 42 specialist teams in 2024 alone. With 412 new tech firms established last year, officials plan to further strengthen industry-academia collaboration and policy support to develop globally competitive industrial clusters.
