Updated: 2025-03-25

Baotou has solidified its position as a regional healthcare leader through its "Healthcare in Baotou" initiative, attracting over 351,800 non-resident patients in 2024, a 50.4 percent year-on-year increase. The city's medical strengths include 13 tertiary public hospitals (seven ranked Class III Grade A) and partnerships with 34 top-tier institutions from Beijing and Shanghai, bringing more than 140 specialists to provide advanced treatments locally.

The program has yielded significant achievements: a 106 percent increase in national and regional research projects, the establishment of three national clinical research sub-centers, and the implementation of cross-regional medical record sharing with Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Recent measures aim to develop 10 specialty disciplines and expand interprovincial collaborations, further enhancing Baotou's reputation for quality healthcare. With 53 national awards recognizing its medical excellence, the city continues to raise standards in patient care and medical innovation across northern China.
