Baotou strengthens national defense education with holistic approaches
Baotou, a key industrial and military base in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has integrated a comprehensive national defense education program into its urban development strategy. The city combines its proud defense manufacturing heritage, including producing China's first tank and contributing to nuclear programs, with innovative educational initiatives to foster patriotism.
Baotou's multi-pronged approach includes military training camps engaging over 3,000 students, defense-themed school curricula, and lectures delivered by military officers. The newly established Baotou National Defense Mobilization Museum joins seven historical sites as educational bases. These efforts have yielded significant results, with nearly 1,000 graduates enlisting in the military in recent years.
Through the collaboration among the government, military, and community, Baotou has established a model for national defense education that combines historical legacy with contemporary teaching methods, effectively nurturing a new generation of citizens with strong national defense awareness and patriotic values. The program demonstrates how industrial cities can utilize their unique heritage to contribute to national security education.
