Hondlon River restoration project resumes operations in Jiuyuan district
The Hondlon River comprehensive improvement project in Baotou's Jiuyuan district has resumed full-scale construction, marking significant progress in this key water conservancy initiative. Spanning 6.32 kilometers, the project includes levee reinforcement, slope protection, and riverbed rehabilitation, with 85 percent of work already completed, including 790,000 cubic meters of earthwork excavation and 7.9 km of embankment construction.
Upon completion, the upgraded waterway will enhance flood control capacity by 30 percent while supporting agricultural resilience and eco-tourism development.
"We're prioritizing both construction safety and long-term sustainability," said an official from Jiuyuan district water affairs bureau, noting the current focus on slope greening and soil conservation. This project exemplifies Baotou's integrated approach to environmental protection and rural vitalization.
