Baotou accelerates rare earth industrial development
Baotou National Rare-Earth High-tech Zone is an important engine for enhancing the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's innovation capability and economic level.
At the forefront of the region's sci-tech innovation, enterprises in the zone have established stable cooperative relationships with 21 top universities, such as Tsinghua University and Peking University, three state key laboratories, 17 scientific research institutes, and 19 industry-leading enterprises.
There are currently 207 innovation platforms in the zone, an increase of 53 percent in the past five years. The number of high-tech and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises has exceeded 400, with a growth rate of 62 percent since 2020.
The zone regards talent as its primary resource and innovation as its primary driving force. It has gathered 377 high-level talents and introduced 89 academicians and experts. Its enterprise R&D center has 3,228 full-time research and experimental development personnel, with 1,821 future talents in the database.
Liu Haiyan, director of the zone's science and technology innovation bureau, said that the zone's R&D investment has exceeded 10 billion yuan in the past five years, and that investment intensity reached 3.5 percent in 2024, 2.57 percentage points higher than the autonomous region's average.
The zone will continue to promote sci-tech and industrial innovation integration and use the power of technology to accelerate the construction of "two rare earth bases" and advance to the top 50 national high-tech zones.
