Baotou hosts historical and cultural exhibition

Updated: 2025-04-21

On April 16, 2025, Baotou's historical and cultural exhibition of Zouxikou (a mass migration movement during China's Ming-Qing periods, when people from Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Hebei provinces journeyed westward to Inner Mongolia for survival and opportunity) debuted in Baotou's government building, showcasing the city's multicultural heritage through photographs and text. Organized by municipal authorities, the event drew over 100 attendees from government agencies and state-owned enterprises.

The exhibition features three sections – historical memory, revitalization practices, and regional influence – highlighting how Xikou culture, red culture, Yellow River culture, and grassland culture intertwined to shape Baotou's identity. It emphasizes unity, progress, and the city's modernization efforts.

Visitors engaged in discussions on ethnic solidarity and cultural development, drawing inspiration from the resilient spirit of the westward migration. The exhibition will tour local districts for two months, with content adapted for public displays citywide.
