In recent years, Baotou has been focused on implementing the construction of modern comprehensive transportation infrastructure and promoting the high-quality development of the city's transportation industry.

In 2024, the reconstruction and expansion project of the G65 Baotou-Maoming Expressway from Baotou to Dongsheng passed inspection. The first-class highway of the 110 national highway north of Baotou has opened to traffic. The Baotou section of the Baotou-Yinchuan high-speed railway project is 98 percent complete and expected to be finished this year.

The city has improved its aviation system. Plans for the renovation and expansion of its airports have passed review. A new international route from Baotou to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, was added last year to promote economic exchanges and strengthen the city's international connections.

The city optimized its logistics network. In 2024, 300 standardized village level logistics service points were established. The Baotou SF Express Distribution Center was relocated and expanded to 30,000 sq m.

Baotou applied to become a demonstration city of the Hohhot-Baotou national comprehensive freight hub strengthening chain and accelerated work on the 25 key projects proposed to promote the construction of a comprehensive logistics system.
