Baotou has prioritized transportation infrastructure by integrating railways, highways, and aviation to fuel regional growth. Key projects include the Baotou-Yinchuan High-speed Railway, set to open this year, and the expansion of the Baotou segment of the G6 Beijing-Lhasa Expressway. The city has also launched its first urban expressway, enhancing road connectivity. 

Efforts extend to aviation, with Baotou Donghe International Airport adding international routes, such as the Baotou–Ulaanbaatar flight, and smart transportation systems, including a traffic command center, that have improved efficiency. 

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period, Baotou has achieved a comprehensive transportation network, accelerating its integration into the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor and enhancing regional economic ties.
