Baotou advances quality housing initiative

Updated: 2025-06-06

Baotou has launched a multi-departmental policy to transition from "basic housing" to "quality housing", introducing measures across land supply, community planning, and unit design.

The policy prioritizes premium residential land with prime locations, transport access, public amenities, and green spaces, setting strict standards: a maximum plot ratio of 2.0, a minimum green space ratio of 35 percent, and the height of over 60 percent of buildings shall not exceed 60 meters.

Innovations include flexible unit designs with up to 25 percent non-GFA (Gross Floor Area) areas (e.g., balconies) of the unit's internal floor area to boost usable space, and lofted living rooms in larger units. Pilot projects such as urban forest garden residences will integrate eco-friendly designs.

Effective for two years, the policy aims to reform housing supply and meet upgraded demand. The Baotou natural resources bureau will enforce these standards to enhance community quality.
