Baotou selected for national urban renewal funding

Updated: 2025-06-13

Baotou has been selected as the only city in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region to receive central government funding for urban renewal in 2025, securing 1.2 billion yuan ($167.52 million) in special funds over three years.

The funding will support 73 key projects across five areas, including 19 sewage system upgrades, 18 old neighborhood renovations, two historic district revitalizations, and 26 integrated redevelopment projects. As an industrial city along the Yellow River in Northwest China, Baotou aims to transform into a more livable, resilient, and innovative city while creating a model for urban renewal that can be replicated nationwide.

The comprehensive update plan for 2025-2027 focuses on improving urban infrastructure through projects such as preserving historical areas and upgrading outdated residential zones.
