Baotou company conducts 'water revolution'

Updated: 2025-06-25

Huadian Inner Mongolia Energy Co Baotou Power Generation Branch (Huadian Baotou Co) has launched a "zero discharge of wastewater" revolution in response to China's implementation of an increasingly strict water resource management system in recent years.

Huadian Baotou Co is currently the largest power generation company in Baotou. Its reclaimed water has high salt content and complex ion composition, which cannot be treated and reused through traditional treatment processes. Therefore, the company has researched relevant cases at home and abroad, organized experts and technical personnel to carry out on-site pilot work and formed a high salt wastewater zero discharge treatment process with salt separation and crystallization.

After the "water revolution", Huadian Baotou Co created the first batch of zero discharge demonstration power plants in the domestic power industry and became the first zero discharge demonstration power enterprise for wastewater in Huadian Group and among Inner Mongolia regional power plants. It is also the first demonstration power plant to use industrial reclaimed water and urban sewage as water sources for large-scale thermal power plants in China.

Hu Yanyun, the company's chemical water specialist, introduced, "Once the project is put into operation, it can reduce 1 million metric tons of recycled water intake, 300 tons of COD emissions, 9 tons of ammonia nitrogen emissions, and 10 million tons of surface water use per year, completely avoiding pollution to the Yellow River."

In the future, the company will continue to practice corporate social responsibility, while also promoting the stable operation of zero wastewater discharge systems and the comprehensive utilization of resources, forming a water-saving system unique to Baotou, and protecting Baotou's ecological environment.
