Updated: 2025-09-09

The Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology (IMUST)'s Rare Earth Industry School admitted 392 new students across three majors in 2025, with students coming from 29 provinces nationwide.

The school achieved a 100 percent first-choice admission rate in Inner Mongolia, with record-high admission scores for students from other provinces.

In Hebei, the highest score for the rare earth materials science and engineering major was 593. In Shandong, the highest scores for metallurgical engineering and new energy materials and devices were 524 and 511, respectively. In Henan, the highest score for metallurgical engineering was 577. In Yunnan, the highest score for rare earth materials science and engineering was 560. Several provinces saw first-choice admission rates exceed those of the previous year.

The school was built in 1956 and began admitting undergraduates in rare earth metallurgy in 1987, followed by doctoral students in 2013. It established the country's first rare earth institute in 2004. It was approved as a regional-level modern industry school in 2022, and as Inner Mongolia's first future technology school in 2023.

The school offers a complete talent cultivation system for undergraduates, master's students, and doctoral students, becoming a pilot for engineering master's and doctoral training reform in 2024. In recent years, its students have won over 300 awards in various competitions, demonstrating the effectiveness of its distinctive educational model.
