Ganqimaodou, an inland hub for China-Mongolia coal transportation, has received thousands of migrant works over the past few years, and education for migrant children has been the focus of attention for local government and schools.

More than 300 children took part in a flag-raising ceremony at Ganqimaodou School in Urad Middle Banner, Bayannur, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Sept 21. Almost 98 percent of students are immigrants, and 80 percent are from migrant families.

“These migrant children can stay with their parents because of the establishment of this school, and not be left-behind children anymore,” claimed the headmaster of Ganqimaodou School.

Ganqimaodou School has received investment of over 14.3 million yuan ($2.2 million) from the government of Urad Middle Banner, being the most remote school built in the whole banner.

The school, which officially opened in September 2012, now consists of a kindergarten and an elementary school, both containing special classes for 75 foreign children from Mongolia.
