2019-08-28

A six-day western China folk song competition concluded on Aug 26 in Urad Front Banner in Bayannuur, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Aug 26.

During this year's event, folk singers performed tens of folk songs. Folk art groups from Colombia, Vanuatu, and other countries presented unique songs and dances and mingled with other folk singers.

Opening and closing ceremonies, a forum on the preservation and development of folk songs, a cycling tournament at Wuliangsuhai Lake, and an exhibition on intangible cultural heritages were all held during the event.

The folk song competition was founded in 2015 and has attracted thousands of folk song singers from 10 ethnic groups including the Mongolian ethnic group, Tibetan ethnic group, and Zhuang and Hui ethnic groups, who have come to Urad Front Banner to compete and showcase their cultures. It has become one of the most influential cultural activities in Bayannuur and western China, and is the only cultural event in the region to be selected as a "national outstanding mass cultural activity".
