Manzhouli, a border city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is implementing strong measures to guarantee materials supply in response to a new round of COVID-19 cases.

The city first screened three people who tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov 27. As of 12:00 am on Dec 1, Manzhouli had reported 183 confirmed cases.

To prevent the spread of further infections, Manzhouli has divided the city's 55 areas into enclosed control areas, and the remaining urban areas are considered controlled areas.

Closed management is implemented in all enclosed control areas. Everybody is required to stay at home.

People living in controlled areas can participate in activities in their residential communities, but must avoid gatherings and are forbidden from leaving the community.

According to Guo Haitao, deputy director of the Manzhouli municipal bureau of commerce, five large supermarkets in Manzhouli are currently responsible for providing the supply of household goods at stable prices.

Meanwhile, the scope and areas of household goods suppliers are expanding to increase supply.

Based on the daily household goods demand amount for 200,000 people, rice, flour, and edible cooking oil in Manzhouli can be guaranteed for more than 20 days.

Fresh and non-perishable food reserves are sufficient. Around 33 metric tons of meat, 33 tons of fruits and 134 tons of vegetables are stored.

The stock of medical supplies such as surgical masks, isolation gowns and protective clothing is sufficient for households for more than three days, according to Li Zhidong, vice-mayor of Manzhouli city.

The emergency management department has also uniformly distributed cotton tents, quilts, cotton coats and other heating equipment at all check points in the city, and is planning to invest 7.28 million yuan ($1.09 million) to continue to purchase velvet cotton gloves, gas stoves, electric kettles and other materials.
