Baotou greenway tempts residents with eco-friendly lifestyle

Updated: 2015-11-09

A 50-kilometer urban greenway was opened to the public in the city of Baotou in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Aug 29.

Open to cyclists, runners and pedestrians, the new greenway provides greater access to the outdoors for local residents.

The greenway cost approximately 70 million yuan ($11.05 million) to construct. The ecology-themed greenway starts from Kunhe Middle Bridge to the west of the city and terminates at the Baotou Dongxing Toll Station in the east. It passes through the districts of Kundulun, Qingshan, Jiuyuan and Donghe, and connects with Gangtie Street, Jianzhu Road and Bayantala Street.

A total of 15 parks and leisure squares have been linked with the new greenway. These include Bayi Park, Laodong Park, Olympic Park, Saihantala Ecological Park and Jianshe Square. The newly-connected parks and greenway form an ecological leisure system and provide a gateway to the city’s natural and cultural sceneries for local residents.
