A jack-o’-lantern is a carved pumpkin lantern, which has long been a symbol of Halloween. The holiday of Halloween falls on Oct 31. To make a jack-o’-lantern, the top of the pumpkin is cut off and the guts are removed. A knife is then used to carve a monstrous or comical image on the pumpkin.
