The first semiconductor laser cladding equipment production line in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was officially put into use on Nov 19, after several months of commissioning, according to Baotou Evening News.

The production line is developed by Baotou Hongzheng Mechanical Technology Co, a tech-based company located in Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.

Laser cladding is a new surface modification technology that adds a wear-resistant, high-temperature, corrosion-resistant cladding material to the surface of the substrate and melts it with a thin layer of the substrate surface using a high-energy laser beam bonding the cladding material to the substrate metal.

This technology is widely used in fields including coal processing, steel manufacturing, mechanical processing, and has completely replaced the traditional hydraulic support cylinder repair plating process.
