'Smart medical services' in Baotou make nurses available at home
Mr Wang, a patient living in the Hondlon district of Baotou, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, recently received an "extended service" offered by a nurse from the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College, Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology.
"Last time I went to the hospital, I was told that the extended medical services are now available at home," said Mr Wang's elder sister. Her brother had fallen from the second floor of a building, received surgery in Beijing, but still needed special treatment.
It is hard for Mr Wang to go to the hospital because he is currently still unable to move and walk properly. In addition, the lack of lifts in his residential area makes the matter worse.
"Thanks to the extended service, we can save the long ride to the hospital now," said his sister.
The extended medical service was officially launched by the hospital on March 17. It allows more patients like Mr Wang to be attended at home and enjoy a professional service from the top-class hospital of the city.
All patients need to do is to find the hospital’s WeChat public account and log in using their phone number. After filling in the basic information and giving a description of their conditions in the spreadsheet, patients can place their orders online.
"The extended service was created in the wake of the problems of an aging population, the increasing number of patients with chronic illnesses and the disproportionate ratio of patients to nurses", said Kang Lirong, deputy director of the hospital's quality management department.
