The city of Baotou in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region reported steady economic growth in the first quarter of 2021, with the regional GDP hitting 71.73 billion yuan ($11.08 billion), for year-on-year growth of 18.7 percent, according to the city's statistics bureau.

Broken down by sector, the added value of the primary industry was 740 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.4 percent. The added value of the secondary industry was 29.35 billion yuan, up 22.9 percent, while the added value of the tertiary industry was 41.64 billion yuan, 16.3 percent above the previous year.

During the period, the added value of the city's industrial enterprises above a designated size – the statistical term referring to those with annual revenue of 20 million yuan or more – increased by 25.5 percent.

The city's fixed asset investment surged, increasing by 60.8 percent year-on-year.

In the first quarter, the per capita disposable income of urban permanent residents was 14,266 yuan, an increase of 13.6 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the per capita disposable income of permanent residents in rural pastoral areas was 7,447 yuan, an increase of 17.3 percent.
