The city of Baotou in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has assiduously pursued the national and local environmental and ecological development project – as well as its industrial transformation – during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).
In the wake of these efforts, the city's greenery coverage rate has now reportedly grown to the current level of 44.6 percent.
During the five-year period, the municipal bureau of landscape architecture has implemented a number of major urban greening projects in succession – such as the Olympic Park and an urban greenway – and initially established a new green space configuration.
The ecology-themed greenway starts from Kunhe Middle Bridge, to the west of the city and terminates at Baotou Dongxing Toll Station in the east. It passes through the districts of Hondlon, Qingshan, Jiuyuan and Donghe and connects with Gangtie Street, Jianzhu Road and Bayantala Street.
It reportedly provides greater access to the outdoors for local residents.
The parks and leisure squares have been linked with the greenway – including Bayi Park, Laodong Park, Baotou Olympic Park, Saihantala Park and Jianshe Square.
