Baotou city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has installed a total of 3,415 5G base stations to date, according to local media reports.

The central urban areas and other key areas of the city have reportedly now achieved full 5G signal coverage.

It is planned that 657 more 5G base stations will be added to the city this year.

The progress in 5G deployment represents the city's commitment to developing technologically advanced infrastructure.

The city has drafted a range of policies – including the Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Development of the 5G Industry and Baotou's 5G Network Construction Promotion Work Plan – to achieve full 5G base station coverage in the next three years.

The growth of Baotou as a smart city has also made progress, with the formulation of related work plans such as the Smart Baotou Promotion Plan 2020-22.

Bayan Obo mining district in Baotou city is the autonomous region's first to achieve independent 5G networking full coverage.
