Lyu Bu (161-199)
Some 1,800 years ago, a rural revolution overthrew the rule of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) and China fell into an era of wars and social turmoil that people called the Three Kingdoms.
The great personage to enter the picture at this time – Lyu Bu – came from Baotou. Lyu, who had the courtesy name of Fengxian, was a Chinese general and warlord who lived during the late Eastern Han reign of Imperial China.
Baotou, at that time called Wuyua, was a nomadic region. During the late Warring States period (475-221 BC) and the Qin dynasty (221-206 BC), the region was part of the Jiuyuan Commandery, which was established during King Wuling of Zhao's reign. In 127 BC, general Wei Qing of the Han dynasty attacked Xiongnu and the Wuyuan Commandery was subsequently established on part of the newly gained land.
Because Lyu Bu was born in a nomad region, he was adept at nomad riding tactics, had excellent riding and shooting skills and was brave and good at fighting – making him one of the most famous generals of the Three Kingdoms period. During the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it is said that he was the most powerful and mighty warrior.
