Baotou has promoted the transformation and upgrading of industry in recent years, blazing a new path toward green, low-carbon and high-quality development.

The city has strived to build a group of influential local brands at home and abroad and promote the rejuvenation of old industrial enterprises in the iron and steel industry, aluminum industry, equipment manufacturing industry, and energy industry.

In the workshop of Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group, groups of exquisite casting products will be sent all over the country to be used in special vehicles, aerospace, railway vehicles and other fields.

Baotou has regarded strategic emerging industries as an important support for sustainable development, and has strived to combine policies, funds and resources. In 2021, 168 strategic emerging industry projects were implemented, with an investment of 31.6 billion yuan ($4.74 billion).

In addition, Baotou has formed a scientific and technological innovation-driven system. It is currently home to three national-level scientific research institutions, two national key laboratories, one national-level engineering technology research center, seven national-level enterprise technology centers, and 216 national high-tech enterprises.

This year, the city plans to implement 902 major projects, with a total investment of 536.2 billion yuan.
