Baotou company produces ultra-thick, high-strength steel coil

Updated: 2026-01-13

A batch of hot-rolled high-strength steel coils with a thickness of 26 millimeters and 28 mm was recently produced at the 2,250-mm hot-rolled production line of Baogang Group.

This is the first batch of ultra-thick hot-rolled high-strength steel coils to break the thickness limit, reflecting the company's large-scale production capacity for ultra-thick materials used in construction engineering.

Liu Dongdong, a company representative, said that ultra-thick, hot-rolled, high-strength steel coils with thicknesses exceeding 25 mm are primarily used for piles and pipes in major engineering infrastructure projects. They must meet strict quality requirements, including high impact toughness and a flawless surface. The production process is complex, making it a high-value product.

To overcome technical barriers, the company has established a dedicated technical team. Over several months of tackling key challenges, the team optimized major process parameters — such as rolling and coiling — to ensure equipment stability, surface quality, and precise control of thickness and width. As a result, they successfully completed the production of the first batch of ultra-thick, hot-rolled, high-strength steel coils.

"The production of the ultra-thick hot-rolled coil demonstrates the improvement of the company's production technology, which has laid a solid foundation to further expand the high-end market," said Liu.
