The city of Hohhot, capital of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been listed as part of the second batch of the National E-commerce Demonstration City, Hohhot’s development and reform commission announced on Feb 17.

According to Hohhot’s agenda for the demonstration city, it will seek to demonstrate sectors of green food and bulk agricultural and livestock products, with cloud computing offering important technological support.

The selection of the National E-commerce Demonstration City is an initiative of the National Development and Reform Commission. A total of 38 cities submitted their plans for the construction of e-commerce demonstration cities, which were then discussed and evaluated by the relevant departments, including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

The finals were decided in accordance with the applicants’ oral defense and the opinions from the event’s expert team. As one of the nation’s e-commerce demonstration cities, the city is required to fulfill tasks at five levels, including optimizing the laws and regulations surrounding e-commerce, speeding up the construction of an e-commerce infrastructure and promoting e-commerce services.
