GMP starts in an Inner Mongolian sheep enterprise
A livestock farming company in Helinge’er county, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, started a standardization production project of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) on April 18. It has taken the lead in making and launching the standardization production in the sheep meat industry in the autonomous region; it was also the first such example in China’s overall sheep industry.
According to the authorities in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Food and Drug Administration, the so-called GMP is widely applied in the pharmaceutical industry, which covers standardized regulations and guidance involving the production environment, processing, technology, raw materials, supplementary materials and packaging. The objective of GMP is to prevent man-made mistakes during the production so as to protect the products from contamination and deterioration.
GMP is now compulsory in the pharmaceutical industry, while it is still an optional practice for most food industries. Deviation from the GMP has been the reason for most food safety problems.
Food safety is a hot issue in recent years as some food safety problems have emerged. As a result, the public has asked for a stricter administration over the food industry. As a leader in Inner Mongolia’s agricultural industry, the enterprise will work out all-round safe production management standards in accordance with the supervision and direction of the region’s related authorities, and to be a driving force for the sustainable development of Inner Mongolia’s sheep meat industry.
There are over 300 quick-frozen meat manufacturers in Inner Mongolia to date, and the launch of GMP in one of its players will give a fillip to the industry’s standardization development in such an industry.
