Ulanmuqi’s trip to Europe
Celebrated as the first Ulanmuqi of China, the Ulanmuqi of Sondi Right Banner from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region put on a performance featuring Mongolian characteristics in Vienna, Austria, on May 30, 2014. Ulanmuqi means “red bud” in Mongolian and is a kind of cultural troupe from Inner Mongolia.
A group dance describing the Mongolian ethnic group’s warm greeting to guests kicked off the troupe’s performance in Vienna. The troupe entranced the audience with shows of original Mongolian flavor, including the Matouqin (head-horse fiddle) playing, long-tone singing and Hoolinn chor (Mongolian throat singing). The performance was crowned by a group dance that features Mongolian wrestling.
The Ulanmuqi’s stage in Vienna was not only its debut in Europe, but also set off its trip in Europe. They will head for Salzburg to take part in the Salzburg International Art and Music Festival on May 31 as the first Chinese troupe on hand at the event.
Several more performances were prepared by the troupe for the European audience, with an aim to promote Mongolian culture.
