As a part of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region's “Elites on the Grasslands” project, which aims to introduce high-level professionals and promote the integration of production, research, and scientific and technological innovation, an academician work station for the prevention and treatment of heavy metal pollution in Inner Mongolia was set up in the region’s capital, Hohhot, on August 27.

Based on the Inner Mongolia Metallurgy Research Society, this academician work station will carry out cooperation in strategic consulting, joint research, research result transformation, professional cultivation and academic exchange, while a team led by Academician Luo Xiwen of the China Engineering Academy will serve as the station’s core.

The work station’s research agenda includes a survey on the pollution control and treatment status in the region’s major controlled areas. A heavy metal pollution database will be built as well.

The work station will work out new technologies, products and equipment with independent proprietary intellectual property rights in response to the requirements of the Inner Mongolia Metallurgy Research Society in controlling and curing heavy metal pollution, in addition to introduction of research results of other academician teams for transformation and industrialization.

The cultivation of innovative professionals in heavy metal pollution control and treatment is another goal of the work station together with the region’s metallurgy society. A variety of high-level academic and technological exchanges will be available through joint efforts of the work station as well as its partner, the Inner Mongolia Metallurgy Research Society.
