Consumer complaints up 24.7 percent in past year

Mobile phones were the largest source of complaints by consumers in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region in the past year.

In 2014, the Inner Mongolia Administration for Industry and Commerce accepted 20,126 cases of consumer complaints, an increase of 24.7 percent from last year.

The complaints of telecommunication products accounted for 17.1 percent of the total. The consumers complained about the poor quality of mobile phones, bad connection quality and hardware, as well as after-sales services.

Nine other commodities also received many complaints by consumers, namely autos, fur shoes, wood doors, overcoats, sport shoes, floor tiles, sofas, LCD TVs and mechanical watches. Together with mobile phones, the 10 commodities made the list of 10 most complained about commodities in the region.

The consumers not only complained about the quality problems of the commodities and after-sales services, but also failures to meet contract issues, fake commercials and suspected fraud.

As of Jan 15, 2015, Inner Mongolia's 12315, a system for consumer complaints, has closed 19,068 complaints, which involved over 200 million yuan ($31.98 million).

The statistics also showed obvious increases in November and October, because of online shopping festivals and commercial promotions at the end of the year.
