No casualties reported yet in Inner Mongolia 5.8-magnitude quake

HOHHOT -- No casualties have been reported after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region at 3:39 pm Wednesday, local authorities said.

At depth of 10 kilometers, the center was monitored at 39.8 degrees north and 106.3 degrees east.

And a 4.0-magnitude aftershock hit the region five minutes later.

The nearby cities of Yinchuan and Shizuishan in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Wuwei and Baiyin in Gansu Province also felt the earthquake.

The area is remote and sparsely populated. No casualties or property damage have been reported. but local authorities are still checking possible damage.

Earlier, a 4.5-magnitude quake hit Dingxi City in Gansu Province at 3:08 p.m., according to the China Earthquake Networks Center, also with no casualties reported.
