Residents of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region may have a chance to taste authentic Malaysian food at the Malaysia Gourmet Festival which kicked off on Oct 9 in Hohhot.

In addition to diversified food, the 6-day festival in the Shangri-la Hotel will also present traditional Malaysian performances, such as dances, teh tarik or “pulled tea” performances and a costume show.

It will also showcase products of Malaysian origin, such as white coffee and seasonings.

The gourmet festival is a part of the Malaysia Kitchen Program, an initiative to brand the country’s cuisine with the help of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation. Malaysia Kitchen officially settled in China in 2012.

Through the popularity of Malaysia cuisine, it will brand Malaysia as a multicultural, dynamic and vibrant country, says a counselor of the Malaysian Embassy.
