China's Inner Mongolia destroys 12,000 guns

HOHHOT, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Police in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region destroyed a total of 11,849 scrapped and illegal guns on Tuesday, following a regional inspection into official and private firearms.

According to the police authorities, the region has seized more than 15,000 kilograms of explosives, 43,000 detonators, 30,000 meters of explosive cable, 3,000 guns and 80,000 bullets.

The authority has also tightened its control over official guns, inspected 20,582 official guns belonging to 821 units and disqualified certain departments and personnel from gun equipment.

The public was called on to report illegal possession of firearms and dangerous weapons. Holders are also urged to turn them in to avoid unnecessary harm to themselves, their families and society.
