The 2016 Inner Mongolia Youth Film Week is to release some Mongolian ethnic-themed movies and provide a chance for young Mongolian filmmakers to exchange ideas in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, from Sept 17 to 23.

The film week has taken one and half year’s preparation and was initiated by Gu Tao, a Mongolian documentary director. The event is being sponsored by the publicity bureau of Hohhot’s Yuquan district, the Inner Mongolia Film Production and Release Company and the Inner Mongolia Tianrui Cultural Development Company.

The film week has built a platform to encourage and support young filmmakers to portray Mongolian ancient history and culture, as well as to reflect the contemporary living situation of ordinary Mongolians.

The organizers have been collecting excellent Mongolian-themed films since June of this year. By the end of August, the organizing committee had received 54 movies from across China, and among these, 80 percent were made by young Mongolian artists.

Following evaluation and selection, professional filmmakers have shortlisted 22 movies into five genres, including fiction, short films and documentaries.

For the event, organizers have invited experts from China and aboard to judge the shortlisted movies, and awards will be given to the best films in a variety of categories at the end of the week.

Volunteers will hand out free entrance tickets to local residents at two places, Kainuo Universal Studio and 87 Art Gallery, in Yuquan district.
