A guide to the 15th Inner Mongolia Grassland Culture Festival (I)

Held in Hohhot, the 15th Inner Mongolia Grassland Culture Festival features 10 parts with 36 programs. Most activities will take place from Aug 8 to 18.

1. Opening ceremony

At the opening ceremony, artists from Ulan Muqir art troupes will recite with the audience, revealing that the festival is a party to entertain the public.

2. Sketches and special evening parties

Ulan Muqir art troupes will perform sketches along with excellent programs for farmers and herdsmen.

3. Excellent musicals

Musicals such as My Ulan Muqir Art Troupes will be on offer at Hohhot Poly Theatre, a people's hall, and the music halls of Inner Mongolia Bureau of National Art Troupes and Inner Mongolia Arts University (IMAU). Each musical will be performed twice.

4. Mongolian-style acrobatics and magic shows

A sitcom combining acrobatics and magic will be performed twice. The play integrates ethnic acrobatics, conjuring tricks, dances and songs to display the beauty of the grasslands.

5. Special performances for teenagers

There will be a teenage evening party where young people can have more opportunities to express themselves and learn about ethnic culture. In addition, a teenage drama, A Tadpole Princess Looking for her Mom, will be staged.

6. The first performance for farmers and herdsmen 

A play depicting the happiness of farmers and herdsmen amid the development in agricultural and pastoral areas.

Venue: The music hall of Inner Mongolia Bureau of National Art Troupes and the open stage at Ruyi Plaza

7. Special performances by artists of Ulan Muqir art troupes

A special evening activity will be held twice, in which programs are selected from a contest between works produced by Ulan Muqir art troupe.

8. Sketches in Mongolian and Chinese

The Department of Culture of Inner Mongolia will gather plays created by Ulan Muqir art troupes and select eight pieces in Mongolian and Chinese languages for two performances.

Plays in Chinese language are due at 8 pm, Aug 12 and 13

9. Amateur Ulan Muqir art troupes performances

Eight teams of amateur Ulan Muqir art troupes will stage eight shows at Ruyi Plaza.

10. Themed movie show

About 100 films, including 65 movies themed on reform and opening-up, documentaries, and 16 movies about ethnic minorities, will be screened in villages, universities, enterprises and barracks.

Venue: Screening stations in schools, agricultural and pastoral areas, banners, counties, cities and leagues.

11. Exhibition of paintings

Themed "colorful Inner Mongolia", this exhibition marks the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up. Around 200 works will be on display, including oil paintings, prints and watercolors.

12. Exhibition of calligraphy and seal engraving

The event will display 200 calligraphy and seal cutting works in Chinese and Mongolian languages.

13. Exhibition of photography

The exhibits record the enormous changes in the autonomous region since China's reform and opening-up 40 years ago.

14. Poetry recitals in Mongolian and Chinese

A number of positive poems have selected to show the friendship and unity between peoples in Inner Mongolia. The events will be held in Chinese and Mongolian.

15. Radio shows

These shows aim to promote ethnic customs and rapid progress in Inner Mongolia.

16. Chorus performances

Forty mass choirs will take part in three high-level concerts.

17. Micro-video contest

This contest will spread stories of people working hard to build the autonomous region into a better place. Outstanding videos will be promoted via websites, WeChat accounts, Weibo accounts and offline platforms.

18. Original Mongolian songs and concerts

Famous experts on Mongolian melodies and lyrics are invited to improve the works of members in a songwriter exchange activity. Extraordinary pieces will be debuted in a concert for original Mongolian songs in October.

19.The 2018 International Grassland Original Music Contest

The period for contributing works lasts from May 25 to Aug 14. In the next month, a series of procedures will be conducted—peer review, media appraisal and live voting. Works in the top 10 will go on the 2018 International Grassland Music Festival tour.

20. The first Inner Mongolia Campus Singing Contest

The contest is divided into four phrases — auditions, tournament, semi-final and final. The scoring system consists of online voting and grading by judges.
