North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region held a concert for domestic and foreign matouqin (horse-head fiddle) players participating in a matouqin talent development project to demonstrate what they learned at Inner Mongolia Arts University (IMAU) in Hohhot, the capital of the region, on May 18.

The "Mongolian matouqin music inheritance and talent training" project carried out by IMAU is fully funded by the China National Arts Fund. The project aims to promote the preservation of traditional matouqin, train new matouqin players, and improve the abilities of young horse-head fiddle players.

At the concert, a total of 50 young matouqin players performed both classic and new matouqin compositions using a variety of performance styles.

According to local media reports, these young talents from China and abroad participated in 40 days of training. Throughout the course of the training, well-known Chinese and Mongolian matouqin players and inheritors taught the young players two styles of matouqin performance and classic Chinese and Mongolian repertoires. Experts, scholars, composers, and professors from China and abroad also taught some theoretical courses.
