People pray for blessings at an aobao cultural festival held in Huitengxile Prairie in Qahar Right Wing Middle Banner, Ulaanqab, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on June 15. Aobao are piles of stones buried with a Buddha statue or metal weapon inside, decorated with colorful ribbons, and widely worshipped throughout the region. They served as landmarks and boundary monuments for local herdsmen in ancient times and have been listed as national intangible cultural heritage items. Mongolian songs and dances, horse-riding competitions, Mongolian wrestling, archery, and an array of other activities with Mongolian characteristics attracted tourists from all over the country to the festival.
