Inner Mongolia achieves good results in 'three major battles'

Inner Mongolia autonomous region made great progress in prevention and resolve of major risks, precision poverty alleviation and pollution prevention – dubbed the three major battles -- according to a government report delivered by Bu Xiaolin, chairwoman of Inner Mongolia.

She was speaking at the third session of the 13th People’s Congress of Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Jan 12.

Last year Inner Mongolia implemented a risk rating assessment, strengthened government debt management and completed 270.7 percent of the annual goal of resolving risky and hidden debt.

Meanwhile, the Inner Mongolia government invested 25.74 billion yuan ($3.74 billion) in bail-out funds and risk prevention and control funds and helped 65 companies to resolve their debt risks.

It also cleared 67.29 billion yuan in arrears from private enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises, exceeding the annual target by far, officials said.

In addition, Inner Mongolia invested 9.92 billion yuan in special funds to alleviate destitution, with the investment in deep poverty areas increasing by 23.4 percent against the previous year. 

A total of 140,000 people living in 676 impoverished villages in 20 counties and banners were lifted out of penury.

With regard to environmental protection, the average air quality compliance ratio of the entire autonomous region was 89.6 percent.

Officials said the sulfur dioxide and ammonia nitrogen reduction tasks during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20) were completed ahead of schedule.

The task of treating polluted water in urban areas in Inner Mongolia has been completed, they added. 

Inner Mongolia also implemented ecological restoration projects, planting 13.63 million mu (908,667 hectares) of forests and treating 9.44 million mu of soil eroded land. 

In addition, 96.7 percent of industrial and mining companies in the nature reserves were shut down.

Ulanhot, Kangbashi and Genhe were granted the honorable title of National Ecological Civilization Model City or County.
